Play Club April 2025: The Crucible by Arthur Miller

Join us for the return of our online book club for plays, Play Club! This April, we’ll be reading The Crucible by Arthur Miller.

How to get the play: we’ve consciously chosen a play which is widely available online or in your local library. A quick google search should bring up a free download! If you buy the play through Amazon, please use our affiliate link as we then get a small percentage of the sale at no extra cost to you. Buy here.

How it works: Read the play with us in your own time and feel free to discuss online via the Instagram thread that will be set up, using the comments on this post, or on the blog post on the main website. You are then invited to a Zoom discussion on the play and given the opportunity to write a short piece in response for the chance for their work to be featured on our podcast.

Zoom Discussion: the Zoom session takes place on 24th April 2025 at 7pm.

To book a place, please click here.

The Zoom link can be accessed via your Eventbrite booking or here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83922025918

This is included in your monthly subscription fee but donations are very welcome to help us cover our costs!

Written responses: members are invited write a short monologue or two-hander (no more than three pages, longer pieces will not be considered) inspired by the play – there are no limitations here, your piece might be loosely inspired by the play or directly related to it, whatever sparks your imagination!

The submission deadline is 1st May 2025. Please send your work to playclub@londonplaywrights.org. Selected pieces will be read out on future episodes of our Playwriting Real-life podcast. If selected, we will contact you by 31st May 2025.

Please note, the Play Club email address is not checked regularly outside of the submission deadlines so please use contact@londonplaywrights.org for all other queries.

When does it start? We’ll start on the 1st April by reading The Crucible. Then we’ll meet on 24th April on Zoom to discuss the play. You’ll have until 1st May to submit your short piece in response. We’ll also set up an Instagram thread where you can comment on the play if you wish to!

Further details, including submission information will be added on our launch date of 1st April!

What kind of plays will be reading? We’ve decided to focus on plays we think you’ll be able to access easily either for free online, at your local library, or even on streaming platforms. So you don’t need to worry about buying a new play text each month.

Who can take part? Play Club is open to members only.

Come back on 1st April for more details!
